Each month we donate a portion of our proceeds to a child with medical needs through the
Legendairy Littles program. During the month of September 2024, we will be featuring Elowyn.
Elowyn was born with Turner’s Syndrome and Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. She has been showing her strength since her birth as 98% of pregnancies where Turner’s Syndrome is present result in miscarriage or stillbirth. At only five days old, she underwent her first open heart surgery. Elowyn will have her second open heart surgery at four months old, and a third one around when she is eighteen months old. Every one of these open heart surgeries is essential for Elowyn to live. Doctors told her parents that the recovery process from open heart surgery would not go well, but Elowyn is full of strength and has shown that she can beat whatever odds she is up against. Not only did she make it through her first Hypoplastic Left Heart surgery, but the surgery took two hours less time than anticipated and she was able to be discharged from the hospital a month ahead of the doctor’s plan.
Recently, Elowyn underwent her first sleep study to determine her need for supplemental oxygen. Doctors anticipate that her next surgery will be to resolve the central sleep apnea that she was found to have. She will likely have a heart transplant in her early twenties.
Elowyn’s parents and six older siblings love to watch her grow into the brave, feisty, and strong girl that she is. She attended her first Hozier concert two days before her Mom found out she was pregnant, and Elowyn still enjoys listening to any all all Hozier music. She is comforted while being swaddled and snuggling with her Mom. She is often found with a handmade crocheted purple butterfly as the purple butterfly is the symbol for Turner’s Syndrome. This stuffy is even more special because it has a “scar” that matches Elowyn’s so that she never feels alone.
During the month of September, Legendairy Milk will be making a donation to Elowyn’s family to help with her ongoing medical expenses. You can donate directly to Elowyn’s family through their GoFundMe .
