Each month we donate a portion of our proceeds to a child with medical needs through the Legendairy Littles program. During the month of April 2025, we will be featuring Juliet.
After being told she would never be able to get pregnant again after her first baby was born, Juliet’s mom ended up getting pregnant and giving birth to a sweet baby girl. While the midwife was doing the newborn exam, she noticed that she had a cleft palate - and everything changed. They were transferred from home to the hospital, where Juliet would have echocardiograms, genetic testing, and ultrasounds of her kidney, as well as visits from a feeding specialist. Because the roof of her mouth is open, she couldn’t latch, which meant that she needed a special bottle. The echocardiogram and ultrasound showed defects in her heart and kidney, and the genetic test would lead to more testing.
Juliet was labeled failure to thrive and was in the bottom percentile every week she went to see her cleft team. Feeding therapy helped, but she was still a slow eater. She struggled with reflux for several months, but we could not determine what she was sensitive to. But once she started to really enjoy her milk, she started drinking more and more - and jumped up to the 30th percentile! She now gets very excited when she sees her milk coming, and is slowly becoming interested in solid foods.
Juliet has a chromosome disorder where some of her chromosomes are missing, and some have been duplicated and put in the wrong spot. Developmentally, she is much younger but has been progressing thanks to the help of her physical therapist. She has had to see cardiologists for more testing and monitoring, as well as seeing gastrointestinal, dietician, nephrology, ENT, feeding and speech therapy, and physical therapy, on top of seeing her Maxocranialfacial team. Juliet is scheduled to have her palate repair surgery in mid April. She’s been slowly weaned off her bottle and on to a sippy cup in preparation, as well as no longer using her pacifier - which was more difficult.
Juliet is a sweet girl who is full of joy and life. She loves when her big sister does tummy time with her, and loves anything that makes noise - especially crinkle books. She enjoys going for long walks and feeling the wind in her hair - outside is her favorite place to be. Juliet is already a miracle baby, and her parents know that she is going to change the world someday. During the month of April, Legendairy Milk will be making a donation to Juliet's family to help with her medical expenses.
