Is It Taking Longer to Trigger a Let-down?

letdowns

Has this happened to you?⁣⁣

Later into your breastfeeding journey, you may notice it takes longer to trigger a let-down. This is common both with a baby at breast and with long-term pumping. What worked early on may change over time. ⁣

First, rule out some possible culprits:

  1. Are your pump parts worn and need to be replaced? Any kinks or tears in your tubing? Has the suction on your pump been compromised?
  2. Are you about to start your period or are you possibly pregnant? Both can decrease milk production which may impact let-downs.
  3. Did you recently start taking a new hormonal birth control? There are reports of hormonal BC impacting supply.
  4. Are you tense, in pain, cold, fatigued, or anxious? These factors may block the neurochemical pathways required for milk let-downs. ⁣⁣

Some women report improved results later in lactation after they change to a different pump or use a different flange that fits the breast better. Flange fit can change over time and nipples may become more elastic over time. ⁣⁣

Have you tried a different pump to compare? Or tried using heat, breast massage/compressions, or vibrations to prompt milk flow? What works best for you to trigger/stimulate letdowns?

My baby is 3 months old and I’ve noticed that my boobs don’t leak or feel engorged, I don’t really see a letdown anymore but I’m also mainly pumping. I’m on liquid gold and cash cow I love those two! Pump Princess didn’t do it for me I actually saw a decrease in my supply while on it! I’ve been drinking Nettle Tea as well along with Raspberry tea and I’ve seen a huge increase in my supply with drinking the teas along with cash cow and liquid gold!

Hi There Mama Helpers!

So I’ve noticed my letdown has significantly decreased, however whenever I do notice a letdown and with excitement offer my baby the boob, she latches and every few second let’s go and relatives and let goes again n again until I am tired of it and move her to a bottle if she is hungry or to grammy for playtime.

Maybe support with tips to avoid this from happening or reasons why this is going on and how to avoid or deal with this situation.

Not only is it bothering me, but kind of upsetting she doesn’t have my milk that is hard to come through, but also hurts my nipples in the process.

She just turned 6 months old gets emotional as time flies by lol and we’ve been BF from birth till date, but has significantly decreased. I either pump or give her formula. She has been on formula since December 2nd. Very hard decision for me to make was to add formula to the mix just to ensure she is full after a feeding. Loads of mom guilt. Anyway I feel like there’s TMI here so, help!

I’m on Sunflower Lecithin, Lechita & will be starting Cash Cow. FYI, Pump Princess did not work for me, might have weirdly lessened my flow. Lechita, don’t wana jinx it, but is the love of my life!

Love your products, so thankful I came across LM! I also bought the NipDip but haven’t used it yet.

Thanks so much for hearing/reading me out 🙌🏼

This has definitely happened to me at 8 months. Cannot even pump a drop at work, but when I’m home with baby at the breast, he seems to be getting plenty of milk.

Yes! At about 4 months, my Spectra didn’t seem to work with me anymore. I got drops. I had to switch to a manual pump and then to a Baby Buddha, which was much stronger and was apparently what I needed. I was really worried my supply had dried up, but it came back with the BB.

I absolutely love this picture of the mama pumping! Is there any way we can get large stickers of all the mama’s you have on your pamphlets and articles?
