Meet This Month's Legendairy Little, Dorathea

Each month we donate a portion of our profits to a child with medical needs through the Legendairy Littles program. This month we will be focusing on an amazing 8 month old named Dorathea.

At 27 weeks 2 days, Dorathea Lily was born via emergency c-section due to Mom having severe preeclampsia and placental insufficiency. Doctors predicted she would be born at 1lb 8 oz (680 grams) knowing that 500 grams is considered viable. Dorathea was born at 1 pound 0.9 oz which is only 480 grams. She had a grade 3 and a grade 4 brain bleed at birth and required a great deal of support for 2.5 months including blood transfusions, eye exams, ultrasounds, x-rays, and oxygen support. Dorathea graduated from the NICU at just shy of 4 months old weighing 6 pounds.

Today Dorathea is 8 months old (5 months corrected). Her brain bleeds are both considered stable for the time being. There is much care in the next few months for Dorathea including physical therapy, glasses for her eye muscle convergence insufficiency, a Cranial Helmet for plagiocephaly, and medication for reflux. Dorathea’s family is so thankful that she is off of her NG tube and is able to now breastfeed. The Legendairy Littles donation will help Dorathea’s family with ongoing medical expenses.
