Meet December's Legendairy Little, EJ

Each month we donate a portion of our proceeds to a child with medical needs through the Legendairy Littles program. During the month of December 2025, we will be featuring EJ.

At 20-weeks gestation, EJ was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot, a complex congenital heart defect. In Tetralogy of Fallot, the heart has four abnormalities that all occur together. The only way to repair TOF is through open-heart surgery that generally happens during the first year of life. EJ would be born at 33-weeks 5-days weighing just 5-pounds. During the first 25-days of his life, he was in the SICU, where the medical staff quickly saw his fighting spirit and sweet temperament. During his time in the SICU, EJ’s parents learned how to navigate his monitors, feeding tubes, and various medications. 

At only 4-months old, EJ was home and enjoying his family when he began to cry and his lips and toes turned purple. He was rushed to the ER where he was admitted and would have open heart surgery only three days later. EJ’s surgery was the day before his brother’s 4th birthday. Since his surgery, he has been discharged and is doing physical therapy. EJ’s heart surgery caused some delays and weakness, but he is working so hard to regain his strength and get back to where he was. 

EJ is surrounded by love and shows his strength to all of those who meet him. Despite his medical challenges, EJ has never let his heart condition define him. He is a joyful baby who lights up when his big brother reads to him or shows off his colorful toy cars nearby. EJ loves his pull-string musical toy that is sure to bring a smile to his face no matter what is happening. He loves the “Icky Sticky Bubble Gum” song by Miss Rachel.
